The first step is to submit a request for an Alberta One Call ticket. Alberta One Call will dispatch a technician to locate and mark primary underground utility lines that may intersect your work area.
However, they do NOT mark "secondary" or privately owned lines—such as gas, power, water, or data lines that run from the meter to your home, garage, or outbuildings.
Once we receive your request, we will contact you to schedule a convenient time and location to meet and accurately locate and mark any underground “secondary” utility lines that may be in your project area.

Once Alberta One Call has marked out their utility lines, and a Mark'em Line Locating technician has marked out any additional secondary lines, all there is left to do is dig with care. This procedure is standard for any ground disturbance project, and failure to follow these steps can result in damage to equipment, and/or serious injury if a live line is struck.
